There are those around us who believe that abortion is a sure way to place limitations on a particular people or movement. Those who have promoted this evil idea have done so in various ways throughout history. They believe that if you eliminate babies before or right after birth, you will control them and diminish their impact in the future. A bold claim, right? Let me explain.
During the times of Exodus, just before the birth of Moses, Pharaoh gave a decree to kill all male Hebrew babies. Pharaoh gave this evil order because the Egyptians were afraid that the Hebrew’s advancement in numbers was a threat to his empire.
The king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives, whose names were Shiphrah and Puah, “When you are helping the Hebrew women during childbirth on the delivery stool, if you see that the baby is a boy, kill him; but if it is a girl, let her live.” The midwives, however, feared God and did not do what the king of Egypt had told them to do; they let the boys live. Then the king of Egypt summoned the midwives and asked them, “Why have you done this? Why have you let the boys live?” The midwives answered Pharaoh, “Hebrew women are not like Egyptian women; they are vigorous and give birth before the midwives arrive.” So God was kind to the midwives and the people increased and became even more numerous. And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families of their own. Then Pharaoh gave this order to all his people: “Every Hebrew boy that is born you must throw into the Nile, but let every girl live.” (Exodus 1:15-22 NIV)
Moses escaped this murderous plan of the devil and moved the nation of Israel out of the bondage. Thus began his journey onto the promise land that God had prophesied to the Abraham.
There is the story of the arrival and First Coming of the Messiah: fearing that the Baby Jesus would be a treat to his Empire, Herod attempted to obtain information on where the Baby Jesus could be found so he can kill Him. He tried to trick the Magi into giving him the location, but the Magi in turn tricked Herod and took another way home. Herod, realizing that the Magi had gone another way, decided to take care of the matter in his own way. Herod gave the order that all baby boys, age two and below to be killed. Herod’s executioners carried out the evil rampage. The Bible said there was great weeping and mourning in the region. The Baby Jesus was spared the onslaught because God had warned Joseph in a dream to remove the Child from the region.
When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys who were two years old or under, in Bethlehem and its vicinity, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi. Then what was said through the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled: (Matthew 2:16, 17 NIV)
This was Satan’s attempt to put an end to the Gospel Messenger, the Deliverer of the most important message given to mankind, a message that will last throughout all eternity. A Messenger sent to save all mankind.
In these modern times, this practice have is now taking place in the womb. China is today enforcing a policy of “one child per family” to control population growth. Couples are encouraged and forced to have an abortion if they were to become pregnant after having their first child. If they do not have the abortion, the parent could face stiff fines and the loss of governmental support.
In the US, supporters of abortion during the early years of the twentieth century, promoted the practice of abortion in an attempt to control the expansion of the black race and other people who were considered marginalized according to society standards. The person that spearheaded this practice was a woman by the name of Margaret Sanger. Ms. Sanger expanded this practice through a movement call eugenics which eventually metastasized into an institution call Planned Parenthood. I urged you to research the history of eugenics and the influence it had during the decades following the Civil War.
Just a few years ago, a parliament member of Jamaica, gave a speech to the assembly stating that the legalization of abortion will help reduce crimes committed by juveniles. The prime minister gave the speaker a hug after the speach. Image that kind of thinking coming from government officials.
Abortion has now evolved in the US and is now being promoted under the heading of the “Right to Choose”. The Pro Choice movement has robbed the world of many children; who knows what their impact would have been today. This is what is known for sure: God’s ultimate plan will prevail in spite of the evil men do. We must continue to speak out against abortion, we must continue to pray for and support those who have had abortion and have to endure the after effects, and we must pray for those who, for one reason or the other, think that abortion is a noble practice which helps women.
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” (Matthew 19:14 NIV)
