Lately, there has been a lot of discussion about the political correctness of the name ‘Washington Redskins’. The debate stems from whether the team’s name,”Redskins” is a racist term against Native American Indians. Considering that the term originated from Canadian Indians warriors who actually painted their skins red as a part of their battle ritual gives me cause to ponder on how our vernacular evolves from generation to generation. Then I came upon another matter.
I was responding to a ridiculous post on Facebook regarding to the current political climate and the government shutdown. The person who made the post mentioned the ‘horrible’ effects that the shutdown has had on kids in this country. I brought up the fact that the ‘real’ effect on kids by our government occurs in the womb with the support and legalization of abortion. Then the word “fetus” was used. That’s when it hit me…this is a racist term, and we are all guilty of using it. We have singled out a certain group of people who are in the most defenseless position of their lives and taken away their humanity; we call them fetuses. By using the ‘fetus’ label, we have given ourselves, and the government, the release we subconsciously need from all moral conscience. The term fetus has evolved.
I am reminded of another term that evolved over time. The word ‘negro’. Antropologically, this term is just a race definition for black people. In the dark era of slavery in America, however, the word negro was used to define a “sub-human” group. The word had evolved into a new genre to help people assauge their conscience. 70% human.. that’s what a negro was. Permission to control, control, kill, and destroy. They’re not human.
Today, we are facing a similar societal tragedy. If we can pretent that the unborn child is not human, we don’t have to make moral choices. We don’t have to face ourselves and wrestle with the fact that we are dealing with a human being…a baby. 0% human…easily discardable.
We cannot allow this inhumane, racist act to continue. I am going to start a campaign to do away with the term “fetus”. The population that this word is used against cannot speak for themselves; they are a minority group and defenseless. We will have to speak up for their sake. We need to eradicate this term from society and stop this discriminatory movement. We must fight to turn the heart of the nation and all mankind to see the unborn as a living human beings, a baby, a precious child of God.
I am encouraging everyone to join me on this campaign by using the power of social media to spread the word. Tell all who are your friends that the word fetus is racist.
Many will refer to this article as extreme, but I will ask you this question:What is more extreme than the taking of millions of lives each year, most of which are done purely for reasons of convenience?
Psalm 106:36-39
They worshipped their idols, which became a snare to them. They sacrifice their sons and their daughters to false gods. They shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrifice to the idols of Canaan, and the land was desecrated by their blood. They defiled themselves by what they did; by their deeds they prostituted themselves.
