SECURE INHERITANCE

When you first looked at the title of this article, you probably thought I was going to talk about something related to financial security, family security or even social security. In actuality, none of these apply to this article. The security I am referring to here is found only through the Resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ. His death on the cross was a payment for our souls, a priceless payment for us who He sees as priceless, in spite of our guilty nature and rebellious spirit.  The awesome reality is that Jesus has taken the security of our soul to a place where Holiness reigns. Jesus did not ascend to Heaven just to take His rightful, majestic place at the right hand of His Father.  He also took with Him our assurance of salvation to the holy of holies. “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with Me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” (John 14:1-4). Imagine how privileged a people we are to have such a Savior, a Savior who has gone to such great lengths to secure our souls, taking our salvation to a place where not even the angels dare to be. That’s how secure you are!

So, do not let your hearts be troubled; your salvation is safe with Jesus who is seated at the right hand of the Father, reconciling us to God.  Knowing this fact, the Apostle Paul urged us to live in the confidence that we are justified; live knowing that the Son reconciled us to the Father; live because our sins are forgiven and our righteousness assured; live our lives richly, regardless of our position or status in society. “Since we have now been justified by His blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through Him! For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to Him through the death of His Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through His life! (Romans 5:9, 10)” This is where our promise is, our security in Christ, away from the corrosion of the world. Jesus promised this to us!  “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of My Father’s hand. I and the Father are One. (John 10:28-30)” The resurrection and ascension of Christ is our assurance that this promise is now fulfilled. No matter what our lot in life is, what hand we are dealt in this current world, we endure it with joy, secure in the knowledge of what Jesus has done for us.

The apostle Peter reassured us of this promise in 1 Peter 1:3-5): “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy, He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith, are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.” This inheritance that Peter spoke about is not like any earthly inheritance that can be destroyed, lost or subjected to the dishonesty of thieves. This inheritance is spiritual, and is the only one you will ever need! No matter what your position on earth is, you are guaranteed of this through the saving grace of Christ: an incorruptible, undefined, unfading spiritual inheritance and is sealed with an everlasting security.

How often do we wake up in the morning and rejoice? Rejoice not just that our salvation is assured, but also that of your fellow Christians as well? For you who believe in the resurrection, what an affirmation  and a glorious reassurance to acknowledge and give praise for you who accept this as true. This is my shout out to you this week; “My friends, I so love how secure you are in life!”

If you are not assured of your salvation and do not acknowledge Jesus as your Savior, I sincerely and wholeheartedly pray for you today. If you wish to know more about the saving grace of Jesus, message me on this blog or visit a church in your community.
